We had one of our big family Sunday lunches , where everybody brings for those who "will forget" and you end up with enough leftovers for a week. My contribution was trifle and sadly I had only a little left, because everyone loved it so.
MY TRIFLE RECIPE (serves 10 with a little leftover for later)
Ingredients
2 trifle sponge cakes (I bought mine, Madeira loaf cakes is also fine)
2 liters ready bought custard
2 packets green jelly (follow instructions on packet)
2 packets red jelly (follow instructions on packet)
1 tin caramel
3/4 bottle medium sherry
1 cup walnuts,chopped
500 ml cream, whipped (for decoration)
marachino cherries (decoration)
grated chocolate
1. Make jelly the previous day
2. Start the layers in a deep bowl, beginning with the sponge
3. Wet the sponge with some of the sherry.
4. Use a knife to cut the jelly into little blocks and place some of both colors on top of sponge.
5. Pour some custard over the top.
6. Sprinkle some nuts and teaspoonfuls of caramel.
7. Now repeat the layers until your bowl is full.
8. Decorate with cream, chocolate and cherries.
Enjoy!!!!
Then we had some fun with the cherries and the camera a while back.....

Nina, I'm baaack! This my first time seeing such an ornately decorated trfile. What a bonus for one of my favourite desserts.
Thanks for coming back Peter and also the compliment.
It would not be Christmas in our house without Mom's trifle. Yours looks very pretty.
Thanks for dropping by, Rose. Yesterday's lunch was actually the result of a date that was made around the Christmas lunch table.
3/4 bottle medium sherry sounds like a lot of sherry, can that be right?
I think I took two slugs, but yip, it is right.
Well that sounds like a really good trifle.
