Why not invite friends over for a Breakfast? It is easy, a lot less stressful than a full-on meal and definitely a lot less strenuous on the wallet. At the moment we are enjoying all the delicious fruits like, peaches, plums, grapes, berries, apples and pineapples to mention but a few and fruit is not only good for you but it is such a refreshing start to a day. For me the centerpiece of such a breakfast must be the bread. Baking a bread for those you love is such a labor of love and is always so well appreciated by all. If baking is not your thing, buy a good sourdough , rye or ciabatta! So now you have fruit and bread, what else???? Nothing much really, except maybe some butter, a good block of cheese and some good coffee!!!
I finished my breakfast with these delicious pots of yogurt. Simply layer Greek yogurt, crushed ginger snaps and peaches in small bowls or whatever beautiful containers you can find and that is how easy it can be to entertain your loved ones. For those of you in the Northern hemisphere, use stewed fruit and serve this delicious breakfast in front of the fireplace after a morning of snow shuffling. If you feel like baking something, Follow my recipe for a...
Fruit and Nut Breakfast loaf.
Ingredients
5 cups of plain flour
1 sachet instant yeast
1/3 cup sugar
2 cups milk
100gr butter
1 tsp salt
For the filling - this is what I used, but you can use whatever you fancy!
Sultanas
almonds
cinnamon
pecan nuts - chopped
maple syrup
Warm milk and butter in the microvawe until butter has melted. Put flower, yeast, sugar, salt and yeast in your mixer with the dough hook, add the milk and butter and knead until soft and pliable. Leave to rise until double in size. Knead down and roll out until 5 cm think. Sprinkle with cinnamon, nuts and maple syrup.Roll up as for a jam roll. When you have a long sausage shape, roll into a spiral and place in your pan(I used a 23 cm cake pan). Bake for 50-60 minutes, take out the oven, pour some more maple syrup over the top and sprinkle with almonds. Bake for another 5 minutes. Enjoy!
As you all know, it was my daughter's birthday a few days ago and we took her to a Build-a-bear Workshop so that she could choose her own bear. I was overwhelmed when she chose this outfit!!!
Last but not least, I want to share with you that Christmas came early for me this year and my father made this stunning herb stand for me. This morning I potted some herbs and fixed some irrigation sprinklers myself, so now my herbs can grow even when I am not here to water them. Dankie Pa!!!!!!( that means: Thank you, Dad!!!!)

Sounds like a beautiful breakfast. I love the yogurt in the little jars
Hi Nina,
I love making bread, and yours is one of those bread that I have to try. It does sound delicious for breakfast.
Btw, my husband is South African, he grew up in Cape Town. We still have family there, and lots of relatives in Joberg.
Cheers,
Elra

Hi
This bread is breath taking :) couldn't not say it :) it looks really yummy. Nice idea of inviting friends for breakfast instead. Nice present you got.
Can I invite myself to yours for breakfast, looks delicious!
Serving breakfast to friends is a great idea - the bread looks beautiful and tasty.
Your daughter's build a bear is too cute - she takes after her Mom.
What a beautiful herb stand your dad made for you - he is VERY talented!
I thought the filling was egg - but what it really is sounds even better!
Looks at his, I'm coming over. Looks too good.
Great idea! I love all your potted herbs and that bread looks scrumptious!
Happy birthday to you and your daughter! (well YOU did give birth on that day, right?) haha
That bread with the dollop of butter is calling my name.
Love the bread, love the bear and really love the herb stand! How fun to have such a nice place to keep your herb garden!
Nina, the bread reminds me of a brioche..so good with any spreads.
Cute bear! And really nice herb stand. I love your breakfast idea and your pretty green coffee cup and saucer is calling me too.
I totally agree with you, breakfast is one of the easiest meals to entertain with and it still leaves you with time in the day for yourself.
aaaahhh that looks fab! i usually never have bfast, but i would definately have this any other time of the day, looks amazing, definately would like to try making it at home!
That's it, I'm moving in with you :-) Between the lovely yogurt cups, the fresh bread and the herb garden.. I'm sold! It's like you live in some kind of paradise or something.
Leave the door open, I'll be there in a day. :-)
Mmm, the bread looks amazing!
Wow - so that loaf looks absolutely perfect!
Breakfast in the patio!!! It brings me back memories of the summery holidays in Chile...
A quiet breakfast on the patio with friends...now that is the thing dreams are made of at the moment with temperatures below zero. Indoors by a cozy fire with friends sounds almost as nice.
Love that bread. Your child is so cute thinking of you when she crafetd her bear. Adorable.
I will definitely be making your fruit and nut bread for Christmas morning - we get up so early and always need something solid in our stomachs.
I love the herb rack - you are a spoilt girl, and you deserve it too!
Prefer inviting for brunch or appetizers at night. Less stressfull than a full dinner. Love what you made.
Well, that's just lovely. Now I just need a porch and some nice weather :) LOL!
What a great idea for a breakfast party! That bread looks heavenly, Nina!
I shouldn't be looking at your blog right now...breakfast on the patio - and I'm sitting here with grey and cold days! I long for tghe sunny Cape...see your potted herbs,('n pragtige potplantstaander, gelukkige dogter!!) feel the breeze from the sea, smell toast from the kitchen, pinch a crust from your ffeshly baked fruit loaf...I don't want stwed fruit, I want yellow cling peaches. Enjoy your summer christmas!

Agree with Peter - I also thought that beautiful loaf reminded me of a nutty brioche. Gorgeous! I've always been a fan of breakfast entertaining as you can go as fancy or as simple as you like, and roll it into brunch.
Love the herb stand - tell your dad I'll trade him a place to stay when he visits London for a herb stand like that ;-)
That sounds like a really nice breakfast and the bread looks great!
