Ciabatta with Rocket, Black Mission Figs, Prosciutto and Goat's Cheese

PhotobucketRemember our virtual trip to Thailand, well today we are off to Italy, because when I think Italian food, I think.......fresh produce, quality ingredients, sexy food etc! I think every foodie dreams of a small deli somewhere in Italy, selling the most delicious meals for half of the year that they are NOT on vacation. SO for today...allow me my silly little dream( My husband thought the lunch was great!) As I have already said, when making these kind of sandwiches, the freshness and quality of your ingredients are key elements that you just have to get right!

Ciabatta with Rocket, Black Mission figs, Prosciutto and Goat's Cheese

1 small ciabatta made with wild yeast ( For those of you living in Cape Town, do vist the Coimbra Cafe in Claremont for the freshest breads and confectionary)
4 Black Mission figs
fresh rocket - from my garden
4 slices of goat's cheese
4 slices of Prosciutto
Cracked Black pepper
Balsamic cream
farm fresh butter

Cut the ciabatta in half and butter. Cut a criss-cross on each fig and press out with your finger tips. Wrap the prosciutto around the figs and put a slice of the cheese in each fig. Wash the rocket and place on the bread and then place the figs on the rocket. Serve with balsamic cream drizzled over the top!

I'm so glad we can take these virtual trips, since Thailand is far from Italy and I wouldn't want to miss dish because I was jet lagged.

Nina, your ciabatta creation looks fabulous. I'm so glad someone else calls arugula rocket. You must be a gardener too. Also like that you used goat cheese - much healther than some of the fattier cheeses. I also agree with the others....your photography is over the top. Great job.

I am wild about figs, and now that I have planted my own tree I can hardly wait the 4 years until I can pick my own purple figs! Your combination has me drooling all over my desk!

Rocket: Generally any of a number of annual herb/cabbage family leafy greens commonly known as arugula. Rocket is more specifically identified to be "Eruca Vescaria". It is very closely related to the slightly less flavorful or spicy "Eruca sativa".
