Wrap it - Blackforest Ham, Watercress and Camembert !

If I say the word "wraps", I bet your mind will immediately go to "Mexican food", "spicy food" or even KFC. We had quite a few cold and rainy days in the last week or so and when the weather is miserable, the food of choice in this house will always be starchy, stewy but most of all heavy, warm and comforting. So, this morning when I woke up to a glorious day, I felt inspired to make "wraps" of a totally different kind. Something light, fresh and crispy....something like......

Blackforest Ham, watercress and Camembert wraps!!!

We all know, that if you source good quality fresh ingredients, very little needs to be done to make that meal spectacular. This was the case with these wraps. I got some Blackforest Ham from Hartlief, some Camembert form Buttercup Dairies just outside Hermon in the Western Cape and some fresh, peppery watercress from the garden.....sounds perfect already, doesn't it? Well the star of this meal, I must say, was the dipping sauce I made for these wraps!

The wraps are pretty straight forward, simply take a slice of the ham, place some watercress and a slice of cheese on top and roll up.
For the sauce, you will need:

Fresh Herb Dipping sauce

Ingredients

125ml whole milk
1-2 cloves of garlic
1/2 tsp peri-peri
2 heaped tbsp good quality mayonaise
about 1 cup fresh herbs - I used mint, parsley and basil.

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blitz until the sauce is ready.

These wraps are ideal for a mid-day snack, a platter if you are catering or a wonderful snack to serve with your pre-dinner drinks. Trust me, you will be amazed!!!!

I am sending this recipe over to the Weekend Herb Blogging, hosted this week by Ahn from A Food Lover's Journey

These are amazing Nina and look at those photos. I have some melt in your mouth Italian proscuitto in the fridge that may substitute well for now.

Oh, I'm sold. This gives me another reason to use my fresh herbs from the garden. And I always have prosciutto in the house, so I may substitute the ham for that.

Such a simple snack or appetizer. These look fabulous.

Yum! My grandparents used to have tons of watercress growing in their garden at their ranch. My grandfather's favorite lunch treat was to take a big bunch of watercress and stuff it between two slices of bread with cream cheese. I love the idea of this fresh herb dipping sauce, and of course I love prosciutto too!

pam - that dips is fantastic as a salad dressing, over fish, baked potatoes, with vegetable crudites.....endless possibilities!!!

myfrenchkitchen - yesterday and today was a lot warmer, so I really enjoyed "light" food for a change!

my carolina kitchen - and you see a lot of beautiful food, so I take it as a huge compliment!

junglefrog - coming from the expert, it means a lot to me to hear you say that! Are pinenuts as expensive in your part of the world?
