South Africa on a plate - Biltong and Butternut Quiche

This Biltong and Butternut Quiche reminded me once again how incredibly rich our South African  food culture  is, but it is a heritage that is made up of recipes borrowed from all over the world. A good example is the

Sweet Onion and Goat's Cheese Quiche - Scrumptious!

This Sweet Onion and Goat's Cheese quiche is without a doubt the most delicious quiche I have ever made....and I make many! With quiches I can prepare and cook my meals in the morning so that my afternoons are free for my other full time occupation, driving Mom's taxi. On Tuesdays my son plays cricket, 50 overs to be exact and it takes forever to finish a game, with the result we only arrive home at 6.30. To arrive home knowing that supper is just a quick green salad away, is bliss!

A Quiche or a savory tart? What do you think?

I'm not sure! Some people insist on calling it a quiche and some people are quite happy with the term savory tart! I can go into a whole explanation of the differences between the two, but in short....a tart can be savory  or sweet or whereas a quiche can only be savory.

Quiches - Tomato, Spinach and Ricotta is a perfect combination!

Quiches of all kinds and flavors go down very well in my household. I love making quiches, so when I decide "ok, today is quiche day", it normally means that friends and family can be sure of a warm "surprise" around dinner time. My arrival with a quiche on their doorstep is normally preceded by a phone call that says "Don't make supper!"

Snoek - A delicasy from the heart of the Capelands

Photobucket "Snoek, or Tyrsites atun, is an edible fish that is native to South African, South American and Australian waters. It is a silvery and oily fish, traditional to the Cape. It is available fresh when in season and frozen at other times of the year.

Blue Cheese Quiche for a quick supper

Photobucket
A Quiche is such a versatile meal, for in summer you can serve it at room temperature with a delicious salad and in winter piping hot with steamed veggies. The possibilities for fillings are also endless...... you can create your own unique quiche that will satisfy your family's taste buds or search the net for a flavor that you fancy...

Waiter, there's something in my ..........

When I saw the theme for this month's Waiter, there's something in my ........ is picnic food, I just had to enter. I LOVE picnics. It does not always have to be planned weeks in advance( I like those too), but a simple "Let's have coffee and sarmies at the beach" is AS good and it always creates wonderful memories for our children.

Quiches and more quiches for you.....

In French cuisine, a quiche is made primarily of eggs and milk in a pastry crust. These simple ingredients form just the base of the recipe with the list of possibilities as wide as your mind (and taste buds) will allow.
The recipe I am sharing with you today was given to me by my sister, who claims she is not a good cook (a blatant lie, of course). I adapt the ingredients to what I have available and what my family likes. So whether you like it simple of something a little more elaborate for a special event, this is the recipe for you.....

Spinach and Bacon Quiche

My son has a cricket match this afternoon and even though they only play 20 overs, it takes the whole afternoon. Cooking supper after all this, is just not going to happen, so I quickly made this quiche this morning. It is so simple. I have refined it to two steps, provided that you have the right ingredients.
