I have been counting the sleeps since I got my invitation, hand delivered in a cute little glass jar, to the annual SAB Eat In Produce Awards.

Last year  I met the most amazing people and I swore that I will buy my way in if I have to this year, but luckily the amazing ladies over at Eat Inn invited me and I am SO excited to go tomorrow night.

Foodies from around the country will gather for an Eat In first – a night market to announce the winners of the 2011 SAB Eat In Produce Awards and to launch this year’s edition of Eat In magazine.
Here is the Media Release:
10 March 2011
EAT IN CELEBRATES THE BEST IN LOCAL PRODUCE
Whether you’re an organic locavore, a meat-loving cowboy or you simply love the smell of freshly baked treats, Eat In is celebrating the best in local produce and invites you to be a part of this foodie experience. On 17 March 2011, the winners of the SAB Eat In Produce Awards will be announced as the legendary Old Biscuit Mill is transformed into a lively night market.
Established four years ago, the SAB Eat In Produce Awards will be open to the public for the first time and is free of charge. From 17:00 visitors to the market will be tapping their feet to the beat of Dave Ferguson, drinking ice-cold beer and indulging in some of South Africa’s finest, fresh produce. SAB will be producing two craft beers for the event – the Newlands Extra Special and the Sunset Wheat Beer, while master brewer Denis da Silva will chat about food and beer pairing.
Five seasoned judges tasted their way through 12 categories of local produce, including Heritage, best small producer of Organic, best small producer of Dairy and Best Markets and Stores, identifying outstanding small independent producers and their contribution to South African food heritage and culture. Anelde Greeff (editor of Eat In magazine), Justine Drake, Pete Goffe Wood, Anna Trapido and Michelle Barry judged this year’s awards.
The night market, which will see over 40 exhibitors, will also mark the launch of the 2011 Eat In magazine – every foodie’s ultimate shopping guide. This year’s issue is centered on three main themes: locavores (people buying and eating locally produced produce and supporting local businesses), foraging (living off the land, which is closely tied to the aforementioned) and smart shopping.
