Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies and a confession!

Peanut Butter …..mon indulgence secrète. Yes, my little secret indulgence when no one is watching…In the morning early when I pack lunch boxes( and yes my husband wants peanut butter and jam sandwiches everyday), I always lick the excess peanut butter and jam off the knife… I know, I know it is not good for me, but let us pretend…….
pretend that the calories you consume early in the morning do not count. I’m afraid it is not the case and therefor I have been trying very hard every morning not to indulge in this secret little sin. MY father taught us from a young age that it is the food  we don’t pray for that makes us fat…. I can already see quite a few frowns, but what he was trying  to teach us, was that the food we eat in between meals often are the cause of our weight problems…..makes you think doesn’t it?
For the biggest part of my life, I thought peanut butter belonged on sandwiches, but that all changed when I ventured into the unknown and paired it with chocolate for the first time. Wow, what a treat. The salty taste of the peanut butter together with the sweetness of the chocolate was such a stunning combination in my Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Frosting. that I was sad for not trying it before. (maybe that it s good thing!)  I was converted and soon I tried many other recipes with peanut butter, like smoothies, cookies, sweets and even a Crunchy Noodle Salad.
Needless to say that of all the peanut butter recipes I have tried,  the chocolate-peanut butter combination remains a firm favorite with my children so this brownie recipe wins hands down every time.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies
makes 12

150gr dark chocolate
100gr butter – cubed
1 cup(215 gr) castor sugar
½ cup(75gr) plain flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 eggs
200gr(3/4 cup) peanut butter – I like the crunchy one.

Preheat oven to 180C
Spray a 20x20cm pan with non-stick spray or line the pan with greaseproof paper. Place the butter, caster sugar and chocolate in a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water (making sure the bowl does not touch the water) Stir until the chocolate and butter have fully melted. Beat the eggs with a fork and quickly beat into the chocolate mixture. Mix the flour and cocoa powder and gently fold it into the  chocolate mixture. Pour into the prepared pan and spread out evenly. Heat the peanut butter in the microwave for 15seconds just to make it softer and easier to spread. Spread the peanut butter over the chocolate mixture and with a toothpick make swirls so that the peanut butter and chocolate shows a marbled effect. Bake for 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool completely before cutting it into blocks.

Don't feel guilty for licking off the extra peanut butter.
I work in the kitchen all day and it's just like one giant meal. Non-stop picking at food. I spend 12 hours on my feet so I guess I burn out the calories as I go. For now. 😛 Now give me a brownie!

Hi, the brownies were delicious made them last nite, just a quick thought though, you don't mention when to add the castor sugar in the method, so for those making it, don't forget about the castor sugar.
