Simple and Delicious – a phrase that could possibly describe each and every recipe in Alida Ryder’s brand new cookbook which was launched by Penguin Books this month. The book is available in English (Simple and Delicious) and Afrikaans ( Heerlik en Maklik).
Alida or better known to us as Ally started blogging for basically the same reason I did way back when in 2007 – keeping a record of what our families eat for supper. Her blog soon became very popular and in 2010 she won the South African blog awards for Best New Blog as well as Best Food and Wine Blog. The logical step for her was to clinch a book deal and these two beautiful books are proof that she made a very wise decision. My prediction is that these books will sell like hotcakes and find their way into many Christmas stockings this year!
I opted for the Afrikaans version, Heerlik en Maklik, Hartskos, just because I felt like a cookbook in my home language for a change. Ally’s recipes however comes in one language and that is delicious, the burgers we tried tonight was really so moreish and amazing.
I think I will have to work my way through the book, because choosing the next recipe I want to make, is not at all easy! However, my taste buds are leaning towards the Salt and Pepper Squid and the Tiramisu, which I learned from her launch, was her mom’s favorite recipe!
Pork and Apple Burgers – from Simple and Delicious by Alida Ryder
serves 4
Ingredients
500gr pork mince
1 green apple – peeled and grated
1 small onion – grated
2 T chopped fresh parsley
250 ml fresh breadcrumbs
½ t salt
125 ml grated pecorino cheese
For serving
4 bread rolls of your choice
100 g camembert cheese
caramelized onions
fresh rocket
preserved figs
Method
Place all the ingredients for the pork burgers in a bowl and mix. Heat some olive oil in a pan and fry a teaspoon of the mixture to taste the seasoning. If you are happy, make 4 individual patties and fry until cooked. Serve on rolls topped with rocket. slices of camembert and preserved figs. Simple and Delicious!
