Nutella Croissant Pudding and a bit of drama on RSG

Nutella………. if I could buy it in buckets full, my son would be the happiest boy alive! Its not that he likes it as a bread topping, pancake filling or something that the culinary world have never  before seen, he eats it  just like that! Straight from the jar… with a small spoon, he says it lasts longer!

Nutella is so delicious, it had a special International day just dedicated to this delectable spread and every year on 5 February, people all over the world celebrated Nutella Day. They baked, cooked and wrote about their favorite spread, but sadly it had to all come to a sudden halt. because of legal issues. Nobody stopped using Nutella, the online Facebook and Twitter accounts were just stopped! You can read all about it here!


Way too much drama over a bottle of delicious chocolate spread. I want to tell you about a different kind of drama…. the kind you find in this  highly entertaining, talented and interesting lady. The first time I saw Marinda Engelbrecht in Kokkedoor, the Afrikaans reality series on Kyknet, I realised she was a force to be reckoned with. She soon crept into our hearts and I was shocked when she was voted off way too soon. I started chatting with her on Facebook and learned that we studied at the same teaching college and both taught for a good couple of years.  You can read more about Marinda here!

When browsing through her pictures on Facebook, three things became clear to me:

  • she loves her husband
  • she adores her children – in fact she adores all children ( she is involved in many drama productions for children)
  • she thrives in the West Coast like a little veld blommetjie (wild flower)
  • she has a passion for food – in fact she says  ” I start trembling when I see raw food, my mind goes 3D and I see and smell the end result

Then today I asked her for a bio, a little info about herself. My word, what a surprise arrived shortly after that in my mailbox! Marinda is a drama queen or shall I reverse that and say she is the queen of drama with literally hundreds of productions under her belt. So, although I believe Marinda has always been a good cook, food is her new drama and empty plates her new stage. Marinda Kook is here to stay and we will still hear a lot about her.

Marinda sent me a recipe for a delicious Nutella Croissant pudding and although there are many recipes for this dessert on the net,  hers is slightly different in that it does not take any additional sugar, the Nutella seems sweet enough!

Nutella Croissant Pudding

Serves  6-8


180 g Nutella

8 croissants

500 ml cream

250 ml milk

4 eggs

5 ml vanilla extract


Slice the croissants in half and spread one half with Nutella. Place the top half back on and repeat with all the croissants. Cut the croissants in smaller pieces and arrange in an oven dish that you have sprayed with Spray ‘n Cook. Pour the cream and milk into a mixing bowl and add the eggs and vanilla. Whisk and pour over the croissants. Allow the croissants to stand for 1 hour so that the croissants soak up all the liquid. Preheat oven to 180 C and bake for 55-60 min until the custard has set. Serve with ice-cream or custard. Nutella

    Marinda is baie talentvol en pragtig!! Sy was ook ee van my gunstelinge op Kokkedoor! Rk hou v.d. pudding en Estée eet ook Nutella net so uit die bottel!
