Smokey Cheese Straws are the perfect little bite with drinks or when the children come home from school and in need of a snack.
Dip a few of these smokey cheese straws in a cup of soup and you have a delicious meal. It is also the ideal way to use up leftover pieces of puff pastry, so next time you make a quiche or tart, keep the cut offs. You can change them into something really delicious.
I just have to say that at the moment, my son is like a Hoover, he eats all the time. Gets up from the table and says: “Mom, is there anything sweet for me to eat?” I hear from other moms, that I’m not the only one with the Hoover dilemma, so I decided to make a list for you:
Savoury
Feta and Biltong Snacks (Banting )
Sweet
4 Ingredient Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
So there you have it, stock up Moms. Now let’s make some Smokey Cheese Straws.
Smokey Cheese Straws
Makes about 20
Ingredients
1 roll Puff pastry
100 g Fairview Chevin ( I use the plain flavor, but you can play around with the other flavors)
5 ml smoked paprika
Method
Preheat oven to 200 c. Roll the puff pastry out to about 2 ml, just slightly bigger than it is. Spread the cheese on the entire piece of pastry. Season with the smoked paprika. Fold the pastry in half, lengthwise and just lightly roll it with the rolling pin or press with your hands to secure the filling. Now cut the halved pastry into 2 cm strips. Prepare a baking tray with Spray n Cook. Take the pieces of pastry, twist them and place on the baking sheet.
Bake for about 10 minutes or until light brown in color. Keep in an airtight container.
PS: You can grate some Parmesan Cheese over the top as they come out the oven, but it is totally optional!
