Cheesy Garlic Turmeric Rosemary Rolls

Cheesy Garlic Turmeric Rosemary Rolls – your answer to easy entertaining.

The Cheesy Garlic Turmeric Rosemary rolls were made with my machine, so very, very little effort from my side. The most effort was to not eat too much of the darn rolls.

I remember seeing dinner rolls on Drizzle & Dip and also Heinstirred. Sam used pumpkin in her recipe and Hein gave his a Middle Eastern Twist. I decided to play with flavors and combine rosemary, garlic and turmeric for a beautiful warm yellow color.

Dinner rolls, for me, must be very soft, small rolls and have a flaky texture. The softness comes from using butter and milk. I wanted to make a ring or these soft, garlicky, herby rolls to dip into a melting round of Fairview Roydon or traditional Camembert. Oh, the joys and prepare yourself with lots of serviettes and lots of oooohhhhs and aaahhhhhs.

This truly is a showstopper, centre piece kind of recipe. You can serve it as part of a cheese and bread buffet or at a BBQ or Braai instead of braaibroodjies.

Place the milk and butter in a jug and microwave for 2 minutes or until the milk is lukewarm and the butter has melted. Place the flour, yeast, salt, turmeric and rosemary in the bowl of the mixer and start the machine. Use the dough hook attachment of the machine. Slowly add the milk/butter mix and mix until you have a soft dough. If you need more liquid, add a little more lukewarm milk or even water. Keep the machine running and knead for about 10 minutes. You will see the dough is stretchy and almost has a shine to it. Cover the bowl with plastic or a clean dry cloth and place in a warm spot in your kitchen. The dough must almost double in size.

Pre-heat the oven to 180 C. Now, line a baking sheet with baking paper. Spray a pan or ramekin the size of the cheese with Spray n Cook and place in the middle of the baking paper. Break small pieces of the dough and roll into perfect little balls and place around the ramekin. Brush with the egg wash. Bake for 35 – 45 minutes. Remove the ramekin and place the cheese in the same space. Put small sprigs of rosemary in the cheese, season with salt and pepper and pop back into the oven, just before serving.
