Macaroons vs Macarons? Many, many people do not know the difference, so don’t despair.

Macaroons vs Macarons, which one is which? Well here it is finally, the difference…… If you read this amazing article, you will find that they ARE related in some weird and wonderful way.

A macaron (mack-a-ROHN is the correct pronunciation ) is a delicate confection made with two round, flat, almond and flour based cookies, sandwiched with ganache or jam. The variations in colour and flavours are endless and just too exquisite.
A macaroon (pronounced mack-a-ROON) is a delicious mounded cookie made with shredded coconut. Some dip them in chocolate and some like them “naked”.

If you however have a thing (a negative thing) about coconut, then neither of these delicious cookies will be for you. You should click away to this. I love coconut, coconut ice, of course is my favorite and I cannot believe that I have never posted a recipe for it. Here is a recipe, I will test and post soon. I do have many other coconut recipes on my site. My favorites being this Raspberry and Coconut Pound Cake  and these Coconut Chicken Wraps with Basil Mayo. I think you will love it too.

5 ½ cups desiccated coconut
2 t vanilla essence or extract
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Melted milk chocolate, if using

Preheat oven to 180 C/350 F. Line 2 cookie sheets with baking or silicone paper.
Place the coconut in a large bowl. Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract/essence. Using a spatula and mix properly.
Make rounded tablespoonfuls of the coconut mixture onto the cookie sheets. You can use a small ice-cream scoop for this.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and lightly toasted on the outside and gooey on the inside.

Cool the macaroons completely. You can dip the bottom of the macaroons in the melted chocolate.
